Now that you have The Promotion Engine, it’s time to get to work.
Here’s how I’d start.
Review the Quick Start Guide first, and that will explain the format, category breakdown, and how to get started. As you review the four categories, notice which one you instinctively want to review least. That’s usually the one with the most leverage for you.
I advise you start with cards from that category first, but you can work through the deck however you see fit.
There are 52!, or 80,658,175,170,943,878,571,660,636,856,403,766,975,289,505,440,883,277,824,000,000,000,000 possible paths through the deck, so your sequence will likely be different from anyone else’s.
And that’s the point. Everyone has unique strengths and weaknesses, so the highest leverage path will be different for all of us.
Just start somewhere, and don’t get caught up trying to find the perfect starting card.
If you need a break from purely career-related content, I write a newsletter about a variety of topics I find interesting. Engineering, mental models, fitness, how things work, and whatever else sparks my curiosity.
One last thing. Some engineers work through The Promotion Engine and realize they want a second set of eyes on their actual case before they walk into their review. If that’s you later on, I do hands-on work at two higher tiers. No need to think about that today, but the door is open if you want it. Since you already purchased The Promotion Engine, I’ll comp an equivalent amount from the higher tier offerings.
